We are going to Costa Rica on Thursday, and I am looking for chowish places to eat 2 dinners in Monteverde, 1 dinner in Quepos, and a lunch in La Fortuna.

I understand that Costa Rica is not a gourmet paradise, so I am looking for clean restaurants with local food options. Any suggestions are welcome.

Just back from Costa Rica and the food was basic and healthy...nothing to write home about...except for an excellent restaurant in Monteverde, Restaurant Sofia. I highly recommend this shining star that serves neuvo Latino food. We had excellent plantain crusted sea bass, home-made, not too sweet lemonade and watermelon granite for dessert. There were many other items on the menu we would have liked to try.
