Leslie Delicatessen & Meats (Formerly Kellen's)

On the advice of Chowhounders, I dropped in to this very charming family-run Middle European store, butcher, and restaurant erstwhile of the Don Mills Plaza. This is a great store. It is on Leslie St., just north of York Mills Rd. The spot used to be a Swiss Chalet. Good riddance to that.
From the hot table, I ordered a combination plate of "Farmer's Lunch", a cabbage roll, and a side of sauerkraut. The food was good; reminded me of my brief time in Germany.
The Farmer's Lunch consisted of pieces of sausage, broccoli, onions, and potato slices, all pan-fried together. This is not health food, folks. But, it is dee-lish. The cabbage roll was good; what can I say, it was a cabbage roll? But, a good one at that. The sauerkraut was very good with nice pieces of pork throughout.
Portions are generous and prices are reasonable. Service is very friendly.
The grocery store is also very nice, filled with lots of European products. Separate butcher and deli counters offer very interesting items: artisinal double-smoked bacon, and lots of very tempting handmade sausages. I left with a very scrumptious hunk of wood-smoked sausage and some salami. Their salamis all look very good and traditional.
I hope the move delivers them continued business. This is a wonderful store: a real family-run butcher, along with home-cooked German and eastern European rib-sticking food choices. This is a niche which is somewhat unfilled (at least in the area), and I am very happy that Kellen's has relocated to this spot.
