Chowder and... - ideas, please homecooks

rosiebcook Jan 21, 2007 05:34 PM

I'm hosting a meeting at my home and plan to make clam chowder as the main dish (it's COLD in Swampscott, MA). What complimentary casual/finger food can I serve with it? Mini quiches? Tartines? Homemade Butterfinger cookies will serve at dessert.

Thanks in advance for your thoughtful input,

Rosie, I suggest a Onion Tart served warm with the chowder.

      How about mini corn muffins?

When I make chowder I usually serve it with a hearty salad, with goat cheese, cranberries and pecans and warm rolls. It sounds very ho hum but people find that it is rich and very satisfying as a main feature.

Since your chowder is creamy tarts would be kind of a duplication. What sort of tartine were you thinking of? I'm thinking of piping hot crisp cornbread and maybe a simple salad like that one from Dec. Saveur, celery salad. That would be nice next to chowder and also be a palate refresher.

Cornbread using Bob's Redmill stoneground cornmeal. A match made in heaven.
