Twin Cities - Where to find veal bones?

clarcc Jan 19, 2007 07:56 PM

Does anyone know where to find veal bones in the Twin Cities area for stock-making purposes? I tried all the higher-end grocery stores as well as Von Hansons and apparently none of them cut their own meat (i.e. no leftover bones).

Try Clancey's Meats and Fish in Linden Hills (Minneapolis):

or, in St. Paul, Widmer's grocery on St. Clair Ave.

I made a call to both Clancey's and Widmer's. Clancey's has bones for $3.99 a pound. Widmer's apparently doesn't carry veal of any kind.

Maybe you can try lunds or Byerly, whenever I make Osso Bucco I would called up Lunds in uptown and order my veal shank. The butcher there would then ask me if how big I want it cut. So maybe they cut there own meat. or Try Forster Meat in Plymouth.

lunds/byerl's just stopped cutting their own meat, it's now centralized for all the stores. i feel bad for our reg guys, they say they don't know what to do with their time. . .

my suggestions for the op would be to try mike's in st paul, or ready meats or everett's in mpls, hackenmueller's in robbinsdale

I also called Mike's butcher shop. They don't have bones. Haven't tried Everett's yet, but as I noted below, Ready Meats does have frozen bones, which I believe will work pretty well for stock making purposes.

I spoke with Von Hansen's, and they have bones that they'd be happy to sell you...for $4.99 a pound. No thanks.

I just got off the phone with Ready Meats on NE Johnson St. They have frozen bones for $2.98 a pound.
