Any good Italian near Webster Hall?

DH and I have a babysitter and a date, and I want to go somewhere homey, with good glasses of wine, but reasonable prices (less than $100 for sure).

I was thinking Max or Frank (hope I don't offend anyone - we live in Queens and never get to go out in Manhattan), but maybe there is somewhere newer and better?

Thanks.

  1. Many would recommend Bianca. I've only been once and thought it was nothing special.

    1. Close enough geographically and (I think) in price, "Il Cantinori" on East 10th around University Place. Anyone been lately?

      1. If newer matters to you, don't go to Col Legno. However, if you want good, honest Tuscan food at around $30/person in relaxing surroundings, go. 9th St. a bit west of 2nd Av.

        1. My vote will be Cacio o Pepe on 2nd Ave. bet. 12th and 13th St. which is not that far from Webster Hall.

I second both Cacio e Pepe and Bianca - ate at them two nights in a row. We ordered a bunch of dishes at Cacio, but the standout that night was the Rigatoni with Quail and blueberries. At Bianca, I really enjoyed my lasagne.

            2. For well executed red-sauce italian - check out John's of 12th St (@ 2nd Ave). Good food, nice people, nearby.

              1. If you like lasagna...I'd go to Max...it's better than Bianca's plus the tiramisu there is better as well. Bianca has the nicer service and maybe nicer ambience - less rustic than Max. But, food wise, I think Max still has a slight edge and there both relatively cheap.
