We wanted to have 3 of the regular tasting menus and one pasta for my sister (subbing out or having her give us the meat items). The answer was no--everyone had to do the same tasting menu or no one could do a tasting menu at all. Didn't matter that it was a birthday, nothing mattered. I'd be happy to hear if they loosened their policy, but Mario Batali is notoriously vegetarian unfriendly. Contrast this to my graduation dinner a few years before that where Aureole allowed us to do 1 vegetarian and 4 meat menus, no questions asked. I've eaten at many a fine dining establishment with my vegetarian fiancee and we've always gotten 1 'regular' tasting menu and one vegetarian and no one has ever made any fuss about it at all.
