Bert's BBQ, RIP

Apparently Bert's BBQ burned down last night. Home of the Turbo T-MAN, and in my opinion constantly underrated, Bert's will be missed.

It's a sad day. Bert's wasn't great barbecue by central Texas standards, but it was darned good and extremely consistent. It was one of those places where politicos, students, busniess people and even transients mixed, and if the Johnson family decides not to rebuild, it will be greatly missed. In any event, Bert's created the greatest Texas junk food ever: The Turbo T-Man: Fritos, beans, sliced beef, chopped beef, sausage and sauce. Wow. Add a pork rib chaser and it didn't get any better. If these folks set up a rebuilding fund, I'm a contributor.

Tell me about it. I was devastated this morning. I didn't know what to think. My heart goes out to the boys. Long live Berts!!

Dang it! All the years I've been in Austin working on campus and never went there.

There is another Bert's on Far West for those looking for a Turbo T-Man.
