Check out fellow chowhound raytamsgv's website for a pretty comprehensive review of places to eat in the SGV -- covers more than Alhambra, but a good starting point.

Savoy on Valley Blvd east of Garfield has great hainan chicken rice, pastas, good roasted chicken salad, and curry.

Garden Cafe on Valley west of Garfield for good Hong Kong style food.

Baccarret Chicken for good roasted chicken.

If Rick's and Tops are the kind of style of food you like, then try The Hat at the northwest corner of Garfield and Valley Blvd. They're known for their pastrami dip sandwiches as well as overwhelming orders of fries and onion rings.

Welcome to Alhambra! I'm a resident myself. We can probably help you out better if you could tell us about your preferences, past favorites from your previous hometowns, etc.

My favorites near the downtown Alhambra area are:

              * Triumphal Palace (Main & 5th) - One of the best dim sum in town.

              * Indo Kitchen (Main & 4th) - Very good hole-in-the-wall Indonesian place. Not many places can wow you with chicken sate.

              * Wahib's Middle East (Main & Grenada) - Large Lebanese sit-down restaurant. Pricier than your everyday kebab joints, but well worth it.

              So much more!

I used to live in Los Feliz, so its not so far. But i am open to all foods, and like low key diners as well as ethinc gems.

I will def try the dim sum!!

                Agree on Wahibs.

Pho 79 on Garfield, just south of Main serves my favorite Pho. Along with many other Vietnamese offerings. On Valley and 6th or 7th there is another Vietnamese restaurant that blows the top off all the others for their Spring Rolls (its the dipping sauce and the green onions sticking out). They also serve Boba.
