We like to try new restaurants on Friday nights. Do you know of any good low key places around the Village or Union Square where we could get in without a reservation tomorrow night?

Alta--a cool pan-Mediterranean tapas place on 10th street. Good, interesting food and lots of seating, including a large bar.

Taralluci e Vino is great (18th btwn Fifth / Broad). Also a fan of Casa Mono (Irving Place).

Gyu-Kaku has its merits. It is very affordable, and fun. It's in Cooper Square near Astor Place.

A new tapas place opened two nights ago on 7th Ave. South & W. 10th St. that has very fair prices, delicious tapas, a reasonably priced wine list (plus sangria) and the best paella we've ever had in a restaurant.
