Online source for odd cuts of meat

negronilover Jan 18, 2007 02:19 PM

This is a bit of an odd question, but I am in the process of writing a paper on Joyce's Ulysses and am in need of a pork kidney. There isn't a butcher in my city that handles that sort of thing and the only online source that I've been able to identify has a minimum order of 50 lbs. Has anyone come across a supplier that could be of some assistance?

Check out Chinese restaurants (especially Taiwanese), they may be able to point you to a supplier.

Are those full service butchers? (Kill to finish)

Because many cities may have restrictions on livestock (alive) or butchers prefer dressed hanging carcases, that may be your stumbling block. It could be of some benefit to look for a full service meat packer that is located further out of your city.

try www.lobels.com in NY, have all sorts of stuff, but, be warned that they are very expensive.

Is there any sizeable Hispanic population where you live? I _just_ bought pork kidneys at a local Mexican market; they were $.99 a pound.
