Love affair with El Quijote is over - now where?

foodluvngal Jan 18, 2007 11:35 AM

I used to love El Quijote (in the Chelsea Hotel on West 23rd Street), but the last few times I was there I was so disappointed. Paella, salty mush; Lobster, dry and boring; and the once outstanding garlic bread tasted as if they sprinkled a meager amount of garlic salt on it and stuck it in the broiler. What happened here? I'm swearing off this place after years of being a regular. So, now where? Centro Vasco? Any other suggestions?

I tried Boqueria the other night and it was good for authentic tapas, didn't try the paella or any other large dishes.

If you liked El Quijote you may also like El Pote - very old school Spanish, has been there forever, and very similar menu.

        It's at 718 2nd Av. around 39th St.
