Question about pork belly at Gramercy Tavern
Has anyone eaten in the Front Room of the Tavern in the past two weeks? I was daydreaming about the pork belly and all its goodness and then wanted to read the description so I went to the website (which has been redesigned recently). To my absolute horror, the pork belly is not on the menu.
Is this just a case of a sample menu leading me astray? Or has it been taken off? I had heard that Michael Anthony was introducing his new menu, but but but....
I'm in a panic. I order that dish the overwhelming majority of the times that I eat in the Tavern and I've been craving it.
Help!

I concur that you should contact GT and let them know that you would love to see the pork belly back in the menu. They're very receptive to hearing what there customers think of the changes etc. I went to GT for RW lunch last Monday and Chef MiKe Anthony approached us to ask what we thought of the food and if there is any way that he can further improve on it specially after Bruni's latest comments on GT.
I also concur that you check, August out as well aside from my previous recommendation of Mai House and Fatty Crab as I was there for dinner right before x-mas and they did have a good pork belly dish on it's menu with sauerkraut that didn't sound like it would taste good but surprisingly did.

We had dinner in the Tavern Room on Sunday evening. The pork belly is definitely not on that menu. It's been replaced by a pulled pork sandwich.
Re: pork belly in the main dining room. It's only on the tasting menu, not on the 3-course prix-fixe.
Chef Michael Anthony has now revamped all the menus, and it seems obvious that the removal of that particular pork belly dish was part of his desire to make that menu entirely his own. However, when we spoke to him after our dinner, he was very receptive about receiving opinions about the food. So, I suggest you contact the restaurant either by phone or via e-mail and let Chef Anthony know how you feel about the pork belly issue.
