Aurora (Rye) vs. La Lanterna (Larchmont)

How do these compare?

More particularly, if we live <10 min from Aurora and really like it, is there something so different or special at La Lanterna that it's worth the bit of extra drive time? (A very unChowish attitude, I know, but we generally go out to dinner with our 5 year old and for various reasons related to schedules and bedtimes, closer is preferable.)

I thought the food at Aurora was good but wouldn't go back. Our apps were taken away and entrees were placed down. This after asking for a 20 min wait between courses. Seeing as you're dining with a 5 year old that may not matter. LaLanterna, however, seems very child friendly. You could always try Frodo's in Pville...one of my favorites.

Hah. Sounds like Gina Marie in Eastchester, the worst restaurant in the world.

I wonder if restaurants think such inconsiderate service goes unnoticed and unnoted today?

They have NO idea of the power of the Internet.

You're not kidding about Gina Marie's. Awful. Period.

I would say that Lanterna in Larchmont is average at best. But, it is much more casual than Aurora. Not as stylized. I found Aurora only to be okay as well (our pasta was so al dente it was inedible, but the other dish was fine). For Italian with a five year old, I'd go the other way, just as near to you, in Portchester. Pieros is great and at an early hour (which I imagine you are doing w/child) you're certain to get a table. Later it's much harder.

I know Piero's is very popular, but I have to say, I've never seen the point.

Piero's is not a good spot for a 5 year old.

              Lanterna in Larchmont closed.
