Just back from weekend at Maryland shore and had incredible Old Bay steamed crabs. It only whet my appetite...any NYC spots?

I used to live in MD and am now forever addicted to crabs seasoned with Old Bay. The only place I've found in NYC that does this dish is City Crab in Gramercy/Union Square but it's not that great.

Yeah...Clemente's is as close as you're going to get. It's even on a dock so it feels like Maryland. I've been there a couple of times and the crabs can be good one night and crap the next...it all depends on what they get and I think they get them fresh from Baltimore.

Crabs are likely from the Gulf regions this time of year, sometimes the Carolinas.
Maryland crab season closed in mid-December. Most waterman stop crabbing in October when oystering starts in the Chesapeake.

I think Clemente's in Sheepshead Bay is the only place to find something similar in NYC.

Went to Ocean City and had blue crabs at Waterman's. It was a real treat...something I usually enjoy during the summer. They weren't offering the all-u-can-eat, but rather by the dozen.

It is illegal to catch crabs in Maryland out of season (mid-Dec to April). You probably ate Gulf of Mexico crabs, per the post below. Best time for Maryland blue crabs is late summer, early fall.
