I haven't tried any of the savory items from the taqueria at this new location yet. Hopefully the items that you found substandard are now improved. I've noticed a lot of management types in there and if I had prepared foods that were substandard I would suggest to one of them, or preferably to one of the little groups of managers that they go and taste the offending items. They are service oriented and trying very hard to do an excellent job!
When you re-try the Carnitas Taco, I might suggest that if you like coconut, try the Coco agua fresca. I almost always get their pretty darn good Horchata but I tried the Coco and it's really good. They tend to put in a ton of ice so I request easy ice with any of their drinks. Good luck and enjoy!
P.S. Can't wait to see the new 3 Sierras Market if they ever get it open!

I really like Vallarta Markets, I used to drive to the Sylmar location to get their carnitas meals to go, and other things, always very good. I tried the new location in SCV about 2/3 weeks ago, when they had just opened, and I was very disappointed, the carnitas were cold, and extremelly dry. Also their pan dulce which is usually good, was just not good, it had a weird taste.
I will try again, I hope is better, I was very happy (one of the few happy people in this town) to know that they were coming to SCV.
....after typing this I might have to go today and have a carnitas taco..........craving now ; ) -

Their pre-marinated carne asada is really scrumptious. We take it home and cook it on our george foreman for splendid results. Make sure to visit Las Delicias further down Lyons for a treat as well.

I LOVE the Vallarta Markets. You can taste-test ALL of the aqua frescas at their juice bar!
Also, the produce section sometimes has some very interesting items in their large barrels. We found fresh dates there that were so delicious!
And don't forget their tres leches cakes; you can portion control and buy just a piece from their cooler.
