Rock Bottom in Ballston claims to have hand pulled ale sometimes (though not now), but otherwise I'm pulling a blank. Had a fine pint at Bertha's in Baltimore this weekend and hope not to have to travel as far next time.

Rustico in Alexandria has a hand pump. Last Thursday they had Allagash Grand Cru, and when that kicked they replaced it with Victory Hop Devil. Besides the cask, they had a very nice selection of about 30 taps and a boatload of bottles.

There is a distinction between real ale and beer on a handpump. Many places pass off keg beer on a handpump as real ale, which should refer to authentic, cask-conditioned, living ale on a handpump.

Hope RFD has the "real" thing.

RFD doesn't even have a handpump for their cask-conditioned beers - its all poured by gravity. They offer a single cask at a time; it sits in a glass-front fridge behind the bar, where you can see that there is no gas hookup at all.

Right you are, and it certainly is an impressive setup with the temperature controlled walk in. Points to a serious approach. Had an excellent cask stout last night.
