Northern Italian in San Diego?

Anybody have an opinion as to the best/most authentic Northern Italian cuisine in San Diego? I'm specifically looking for Northern Italian-style cuisine, not just Italian in general.

The web recommends Chianti and Asti Ristorante downtown, but I figure people here are a better source :)

  1. Which part of Northern Italian food are you looking for, e.g. from Istria etc. You might look into Vivace at the Four Season Aviara in La Costa. The chef worked with Batali at Babbo
