Getting the smell out of silicon spatulas?

Does anyone know how to get smells out of silicon spatulas? I love mine but after making some Moroccan food and chili last week I can't get the smell of cumin out of it even after multiple scrubbings. :( TIA!

  1. Have you tried soaking them in water and baking soda? Some Borax in the water deoderizes too. I washed some Coach handbags in the washing machine with borax after a house fire and it got the stink right out.

i know some of you are boggling at the idea of washing a leather bag in a washing machine but after a friend did it by accident and mine stank so badly after a house fire I figured what the heck? I can't use them as they are they smell too bad so into the washer with the borax they went and then were carefully dried and saddle soaped. Worked like a charm. almst 17 years later I am still using some of them.

I will try both of those! Thanks!!

    2. I have multiple spatula's/scrapers that I reserve for sweet and savory use because of this problem.

My favorites are the red handled Rubbermaid commercial series that I get from the Rubbermaid store for $3.00 each. They are seconds with slight color differences in the handle, but the silicone is perfect.
