Aquavit has an amazing vegetarian tasting dinner.

We've had some really iffy meals at Candle 79, as well as a few pretty decent ones, but nothing that made us think the food was worth the cost.

Blossom, on the other hand, we loved (and wrote about recently). We've taken loads of people there and have never had a bad meal. It (more even than Pure Food & Wine, which is also very good) would get my vote.

Try Hangawi in the East 30s. It is upscale Korean vegetarian, and has a serene, zen-like atmosphere. It is fairly expensive for vegetarian, but the food was tasty and had a good variety. While it's not the best vegetarian place in the city, it is worth trying out!

Forgot Hangawi, which is really nice. I recommend the big dinner (forget what it's called, maybe Emperor's or something).

I absolutely love Pure Food and Wine. It's not just vegetarian, but raw and vegan. The food and atmosphere are both stunning. The service is always impeccable and friendly. Definitely one of the finest high end veg options.

Candle 79, on 79th near Third. Vegan and everything I've eaten there is very good. Nice atmosphere, too.
