Hanging duck delis in Concord/Walnut Creek?

Will be visiting area first time and would like to bring a little something -- duck, chicken, and/or good steam table items. Any such place? Addr/cross street appreciated to mapquest from her house. Thank you!

  1. Only place that comes to mind is the County Square market at 508 Contra Costa Blvd. in Pleasant Hill near 680 and Hwy. 4. Not the best hanging duck and roast pork in the Bay Area but there aren't many choices out here in the burbs.

    1. depending on where you're coming from, might be best to make a pit stop in Oakland Chinatown or at Pacific East Mall in Richmond before heading through the tunnel.

Coming from Richmond-San Rafael Bridge - Tunnel? Not even sure how to get to Concord, seems to be several routes. Stopping in Ranch 99 sounds good though.

If choices are indeed that limited in Contra Costa, a delivery from Oakland's Chinatown might be even that more welcome. Never been impressed with the barbecue stand in Ranch 99, maybe it has changed for the better by now.

P.S. And you'll see from mapquest that it's very easy to get from Oakland Chinatown to the Caldecott tunnel.

Looks like a detour to New Gold Medal is included in this trip!

Pacific East Mall has Daimo also -- do they do deli items (chicken, duck, roast pork)?

              1. re: kc72

Yes, Daimo's front kitchen has the various meats. It will be pricier than other take-out places. The guei fei chicken is very good at Daimo, haven't had the other items recently. Maybe Joel can say more about the roast duck compared to New Gold Medal.

Yes they do and I can't say enough good about their 'siu gnapp' (roast duck). IMO, although a bit pricey, it's still the best I've had (as recently as last month). Their 'jiu yuuk' (roast pork) and 'cha siu' (bbq pork) is also excellent.
If anyone can refute my claim about their duck, please let me know where I can find better, I'll be there in a flash. :-)

          2. County Square market at 508 Contra Costa Blvd. in Pleasant Hill is plenty good. I think their roast pork is better than a lot of Chinatown roast pork. I would stay away from steam table items as they can be a bit old at times, but their deli roast items are very good and fresh.

Can you eat there as well, maybe noodles w/roasted items?

              1. re: Sarah

no, strictly a grocery store with deli without tables or noodles.
