Anyone been to Monte's in Carroll Gardens recently?

If so, I would love a report. My husband has been wanting to go there for quite some time and I thought it would be a fun kitchy place to go for his birthday. I am just wondering if the food is any good....

I've had fantastic meals there and some that were just OK. The cheesecake is always great (and I HATE cheesecake). The atmo is hard to beat though. Not too many places like this in Brooklyn anymore, though you've gotta love Red Rose and 2 Toms for the same reason.

Orleanslaura, my husband also wants to go there. The atmosphere is kitschy fun, the bartender told us that Sammy Davis Jr. used to go there every time he was in town, they would stay open for him. That said the reputation is that the food is terrible, but I have no good sources on that. I'm happy to hear that shindiganna had a good meal, maybe I will consider trying it out! Please post if you do go. Oh, the cheesecake is supposed to be amazing.

Still have not gone, but a friend highly recommends the clam sauce.

I think they are way past their prime. With so many better choices around, It amazes me how they stay open.

We had dinner there over the summer. Very good food, cozy atmosphere. Worth the trip
