Outing to Chester

Hi,
Looking to travel up to Chester for a day. I'm definitely going to have brunch at Sally Lunn's (scones!) and I'm probably going to spend the day wandering around shops, maybe jaunt over to Easton to see a friend, maybe take a hike if the weather isn't deathly cold and I can find a nice spot. Is there a good place to go to for dinner though?

Chester is in NJ - hence the mention of the star ledger. Long Valley is not far from Chester - have you tried the long valley pub and brewery? The food is ok - but the brews are great and the atmosphere is really special.

You might want to mention what state you are interested in, im the future, since the first Chester I think of is in Connecticut, and that is apparently not what people are replying about here.

When we were in Chester a few of years ago, we had lunch at Toscana Trattoria. The food was delicious. It was during the summer, so we sat outside on the patio; however, I did take a peek inside, and the interior looked very nice. Presuming it's still there, definitely worth giving it a try.

The Publick House on main street in chester has re-opened (i believe late last summer)under new ownership and renovations. i haven't tried it yet but am curious and will when i'm in the area. Cody Kendall of the Star Ledger wrote a review a few weeks ago (christmas weekend). you could probably find it on-line at nj.com.
If you do have dinner out in the area, would you post? would be interested in knowing more about what is out that way.

Is the Publick House the restaurant that was attached to the old hotel? I was just lamenting the fact that it was gone with a co-worker (if it is indeed the same place). I had one of the best fish dishes I've had in a restaurant there.
