Drinks for a Special 19 Year Old
My daughter is turning 19 and I would like to take her and maybe a couple of her friends out for a special drink. I was thinking of Canoe or the rooftop at the Park Hyatt but that might be my middle-aged brain thinking. She's remarkably down to earth so something like the Drake would proabably be too pretentious for her. What would you suggest?

I think either of your choices are classic, elegant and right on target.
I like the idea of a traditional, old-world hotel bar (Hyatt, Royal York Library Bar or perhaps Four Seasons... although it has becomea little-scene-y). Any of these places are institutions, and will always retain their grace and charm. You can take her back for her thirtieth, her university graduation, her first big job promotion or to celebrate an engagement or any future milestone. It can be "your" place.
Plus hotel bars have interesting atmosphere... people turn up in jeans or wedding gowns - literally. You never know quite what you'll find.

If it's a night with clear skies, I like Panorama on the 51st floor of the Manulife Centre.

I like the ambiance at Doku 15. It's vibey, fun drinks, terrific decor, comfortable but not too intensely 'sceney', if you know what I mean.
Sometime the bar at the Soho Hotel can be fun (like the night Shania Twain was in town) as there are often stars and fashion types hanging out there.
The bar at Canoe IS spectacular, that'd be really nice.
