Non-fried fish tacos

On a recent trip to Mexico, my husband and I had fantastic smoked marlin tacos--the fish was shredded and mixed with a flavorful, tomato-based sauce. But the only fish tacos I've been able to find in New York are of the battered-and-fried variety--a fine item in its own right, but I'm really craving the other kind. Does anyone know of a place that has them?

I had the fish tacos at Rosa Mexicana. Not cheap. It was a pretty simple preparation. The tortilla, chilean sea bass (unbattered, unbreaded), and toppings were served separately (two salsas and I can't remember what else) on a platter. You build the taco however you like. It made for a nice lunch.

Uncle Moe's on 19th Street between 5th and 6th uses grilled salmon in their fish tacos, and they use a squirt of avocado and roasted corn sauce/relish on them. Not the same thing I am sure, but maybe a new favorite? It's one of mine.

The Snack Dragon Taco Shack on 3rd btwn A and B has really good grilled fish tacos...it's some sort of white fish maybe tilapia or sole...not exactly like the tacos you described but they're definitely not fried and super tasty

don't know if its exactly the same, but I had some great non-fried fish tacos at Cafe El Portal last night. Elizabeth st near Kenmare. try it out. Their food is really great, pretty cheap.
