Dinner and a Show

I am looking for restaurant suggestions for dinner before a Broadway play. Medium price range. (I'll be on an expense account-- no limits, but I don't want to look like a pig.) Open to any type of restaurant.

I haven't bought tickets yet, but I'm leaning toward seeing "Hairspray" at the Neil Simon Theater on 51st street. Show suggestions are also appreciated. I've been to NY a few times but I will be with a friend who has never been to the city before.

Not your fault. Apparently I did not read the rules very carefully. Seems I'm always getting my hands slapped, especially in fine restaurants when I am eating soup my fingers and drinking good wine with a straw. (You don't have to tell me twice to stay on topic.)

      Sorry!

Just a brief reminder to confine the recommendations to food. Recommending Broadway shows is off topic here. Thanks, everybody.

I do recommend Jersey Boys highly, but as a director I'm hesitant to recommend a musical that isn't based on an original score as your first Broadway experience (sorry, it's the purist in me). I'd try for Avenue Q -- it probably won't be at TKTS, but go to the box office and check for cancellations. As for food in the theater district, there's a good Mexican restaurant called Hell's Kitchen on 9th Avenue somewhere around 48th. I'm not sure what's great these days on restaurant row (46th between 8th and 9th) but I recall somebody saying something on here recently...

I was just there for my birthday weekend. We went to the box office where Jersey Boys is playing at 3pm, and asked for any cancellations. We got 4 tickets 2nd row mezzanine and the show was Great! Try it! We ate at Azaleas about a block over...can't remember the street but it was good...not a lot of food but tasty. Service was fine.
