Hartford, CT to South shore LI: any suggestions?
I've heard good things about Toast in Port Jefferson. I haven't had an opportunity to eat there, only due to bad timing on my part. http://toastcoffeehouse.com/ They only serve breakfast and lunch.
I have, however, been to Maureen's Kitchen. PHENOMENAL food for good prices (for LI, anyway). It's on Terry Road in Smithtown. No matter where you are, you simply MUST make it over there for breakfast/lunch/brunch. (Phone # is 631-360-9227, but they don't take reservations.) Oh, and DON'T go on a Sunday. You'll wait FOREVER. Absolutely decadent breakfasts... like asparagus omelets, pecan oat bran pancakes topped with fresh blueberries, Cheddar and prosciutto omelets, and I have read (but not tasted) that the baked oatmeal is like a hot cookie in a bowl.
They don't have a web site, but here's a listing from Newsday: http://www.newsday.com/entertainment/...
Oh, and Maureen's Kitchen only accepts cash.
