Need a pre-theater restaurant suggestion

devildoll Jan 10, 2007 02:30 PM

I am going to New York for the first time in early February. A friend and I are going to see Evil Dead the Musical in the theater district (Stages theater) on Friday night at 7:30 and we need a pre-theater restaurant/bar suggestion, either in the therater district or on the way. We are staying at the Grand Hyatt (Park ave & Grand central). We like all types of food (esp. Spanish, cuban, mexican)and are looking for somewhere to have some drinks and good meal. Thanks.

For Mexican, Hell's Kitchen is in the Theater District, on 9th Av., b/t 46th & 47th Sts. Though I haven't yet managed to eat there, it gets uniform praise from Hounds who have.

We've eaten there several times and have always enjoyed it. The food is "nuevo" Mexican (not Tex-Mex or traditional Mexican). Drinks are good; dishes we've particularly enjoyed are the grilled shrimp with Serrano sauce, the huitlacoche tamale and wild mushroom roll apps, and the pork chop mixote. Last time we were there - a few weeks ago - I had a posole entree that was perfect for a cold January day (if we ever have one again!).

Hell's Kitchen is great and I'd also add Marseille (French) and Bann (Korean BBQ)

Thanks for your help. Talked to my friend and she is interested in Hell's Kitchen so we will probably try that.
