W. Village restaurant that is good for a group?

lizdixon Jan 10, 2007 12:33 AM

I had no idea 20 people would say yes to my birthday invite... uh oh! Now what? Any thoughts are appreciated... most be in the Village or W Village. Thanks.

Delicia on W. 11th is the kind of a place that serves good food, is reasonable, is terrible with less than four people, and will let you linger at a table all night. I hated the on time I went with only a date. I've always had fun with a group.

i've been several times to large lunches/dinners at cafe espanol (on bleecker). they have a back room (or 2?) that can hold groups, i think around 30? they are pretty good at letting you be a little drunk and unwieldy, should your birthday dinner transpire into that... also they have an outdoor patio, if smokers don't want to go out on bleecker. the food is good, they have pretty affordable prices for lobsters (2 lber for 30 bucks), and my coworkers comment that the shell steak is pretty decent.

stop by there, and see if your birthday date has anyone using the back room...

Palma on Cornelia Street has a hidden farmhouse in the back of the garden that they use for prvate parties - amazing ambiance and food. Just went there for a dinner last week with friends and it was wonderful experience.

Alfama on Hudson. Elegant, fun, reasonably priced, makes a good group place and maintains intimate setting.

Gonzo....West 13th off 6th....Make sure you order their "Grilled Pizza" (especially the mushroom) to begin your meal. It's the best.

Pastis, at the big table. Fantastic way to celebrate your birthday!

It is the W Village, although I think the official cutoff is one block south..

I do like Pastis, but it's neither West Village nor easy to reserve (let alone reserve for a large group).

Osteria Del Sole has a large table for large group. Great food too.
