I bought a bottle from CostCo ($18.99) and I really enjoyed it. 50% merlot, 35% sangiovese, 15% cab. Apparently it is a joint effort between the Mondavi's and the Frescobaldi family in Montalcino. I had never heard of it until now. Has anybody tried their flagship wine Luce?

I've had many vintages of both, since the confab of Mondavi & Frescobaldi. I like the Luce better, as it has a lot more character. That said, it's usually quite a bit more than the Lucente, which is a great pasta/red sauce wine, with a tad more structure, than many Chiantis. It is also, by MHO, more of a "sipper," than many Chiantis.

The Luce comes into its own with more beef present on the menu, and I've found it to be quite age-worthy. I'm working some of my mid-90's Luce now, and loving them.

IIRC, the last Lucente that I purchased was ~US$35, so the price seems very good. I'll have to check out my Costco, and ask for this one. Thanks for the heads-up.
