Does anyone know where I can get (Indian) hot vindaloo curry powder?I had some a friend brought back from England, but am out and can't seem to find any that is comparable. Not being really familiar with the L.A. area doesn't help me know where to look, either.

I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

  1. I don't know for sure they carry vindaloo curry powder - but there are a few Indian markets in "Little India" - basically a stretch on Pioneer Blvd (b/w 183rd St. and 187th) in Artesia. I've found everything else Indian related there.

    1. check out Penzeys spices on line

thanks so much dtud and rednyellow!!

      2. My husband always orders lamb vindaloo at Bombay Cafe on Pico, east of Bundy. He loves it but it's pricier than the typical take-out Indian experience in the UK.

        1. If Artesia is too far for you, you can try India Sweets & Spices. I've only been to the one on Los Feliz Blvd, but they have many other locations.

There's a branch on Venice in Culver City. It's tiny, but I'm almost sure they would have vindaloo powder. I stocked up on garam masala and they had a bunch of other spice blends too. I don't know how their stock compares with the Los Feliz or other branches.

          2. Since you are looking for a vindaloo curry power, it probably is something Anglo-Indian, since, from my understanding, powders are not used in India. In the UK powders are common.

May I suggest one of the British shops in Santa Monica, or Bay Cities, also in Santa Monica, which also has a selection of curries?
