Heading to Maui later this month and I've come across some great recommendations for good seafood, but the friend I'm travelling with will undoubtedly be craving a steak at some point so I'm looking for some advice. Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

I live on Maui. I love Ruth's Chris and generally always am satisfied. I must add that I went to Longhi's last week and my friend ordered the most insane filet with a bernaise sauce. Unbeliveably good!!! Truth is most of the steaks on Maui at better restaurants are pretty good. I really like the local Makawao Beef. I still have not tried Kobe Beef. I've heard its great and you may be able to find it if you look around.

    Aloha

Sorry I don't know anyplace in Wailea but I'm sure the food is good there. If you go upcountry Hailemaile General Store has EXCELLENT food and great steaks.

Was just in Maui last September and we had a wonderful steak dinner at Ruth Chris'at the Shops at Wailea. I would go back in a heartbeat and have since also tried our local RCs' in Toronto...also excellent.

We were in Maui a few weeks ago and had a great dinner at Roy's Hawaiian Fusion. I had short ribs which were the best and someone else had a fantastic filet.
Wish I was in Maui now!

In Novemenber we ate at the Maui Brewing Company twice. I had their prime rib and it was fantastic. It's in Kahana, pretty far from Wailea. It's a very local place compared to Ruth Chris and Roys.

Thanks for all of your responses. A quick rundown on our restaurant choices: We ended up eating at Spago, Sarento's on the Beach, Mama's Fish House and the Japanese restaurant in the Grand Wailea (more for convenience than anything). Our dinner at Mama's Fish House was the best. The rugged beachfront provides great atmosphere, the service was impeccable and the food was incredible. We started with wonderful ahi sashimi and some sirloin poke in a grilled papaya, and we had the mahimahi stuffed with lobster, crab and Maui onion, baked in a macadamia nut crust, and the opakapaka (sp?) served in a white wine, tomato, caper sauce. We also loved our dinner at Sarento's on the Beach in Wailea. Again, a beautiful (and up close) beachfront atmosphere, great service and wonderful food. There we started with their fresh bread served with a curry hummus, had the caesar salad and mushroom bruscetta as appetizers, followed by entrees of beef filet with potato lasagna and black truffle sauce and the spagetti with filet mignon meatballs. The portions were huge and one appetizer and one entree would easily feed most couples. Ahh Maui, wish I was still there....
