WALNUT CREEK...ANYTHING A HOUND WOULD ENJOY NEAR N. MAIN STREET?
Hi,
I'm looking for a local upscale but not too upscale (no chains) restaurant with excellent service as close as possible to the following address:
2800 N. Main Street, Walnut Creek, CA 94597
I would like to give a gift certificate. Food type might be steaks, American or Italian.
If anyone can help it will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Va de Vi and Croby's both work, but I think both are overpriced when speaking of the food quality. Bing's atmosphere is very cool and unique, and the martini bar is fabulous. Va de Vi is worth it for the wine flights. Ephesus does have a unique Mediterranean menu and is very good. Other good choices are Italian restaurants, one is called Salvatore's, on Main St., and also Montecatini on Civic near Main. both are very nice atmospheres, family run Italian, although Montecatini can be a bit crowded and noisy. Lark Creek Walnut Creek on Locust St. (1 block W of Main St.) is the other "upscale" downtown choice. Part of the Bradley Ogden/Lark Creek group, and similar California/American menu. Nice atmosphere there.

Doh! I forgot to reccomend Prima! It's right on Main. If you go Italian, it's hand's down the one to choose. Famous for their wine program (also has it's own retail wine shop next door), the food is fantastic. Went there a couple of months ago for the first time, nice and romantic, too. Diablo Magazine also named it to their Top 7 in the entire East Bay this year, and if I recall correctly, it was the highest rated of all.

Va De Vi or Bing Crosby's would both fit the bill. Va De Vi is fun small plates that specializes in wine flights, Bing Crosby's has lots of specialty martinis and the kind of food you think of when you think "fancy restaurant". More formal than Va De Vi, and I bet you can guess what the theme is.
Or you could try Ephesus on Locust for Mediterranean kebab type food. It's got a nice upscale (but not too upscale) vibe.
