Butcher in Los Feliz/Silverlake?

Hey folks. I'm new to the board, so I apologize if this topic has been covered a dozen times already.

Is there a really good butcher in Los Feliz/Silver Lake area? The supermarkets are either very disappointing or very expensive? I'm looking for a place where I can get hanger steaks, veal short ribs, etc. Any suggestions?

    I share your desire for such a butcher in the nabe, but alas, I have not found one yet. The best I can do is to recommend the Rocky Canyon Farms stand at the Hollywood Farmer's Market on Sundays. This farm raises grass-fed cows and pigs and has a wide assortment of cuts. You should get there early for the best selection, or place your order a week ahead of time with the stand--they'll do pretty much whatever you want, and it's delicious.

      Agreed - a good butcher is hard to find. I've had good luck with the butchers at Gelson's, Bristol Farms, and Whole Foods. Not really bargain basement prices, unfortunately.

        Beachwood Market in Beachwood Canyon. Little butcher in the back of a mediocre supermarket. Excellent dry aged steaks of all types at LOW prices.

          This may be totally below your standards, but the butcher counter at Jon's market on Vermont and Hollywood has super low prices on things like beef short ribs. There are actual butchers there to help you too.
