Good diners in the western Philly burbs?

Just wondering if there are any good diners y'all would recommend in the Drexel Hill/Havertown/Springfield area? We ate at the Llanerch when we first moved here last year and it was just okay. Plus even in the non-smoking area it was so smoky we could not stand it. Has anyone eaten at one on Baltimore Pike, think it is called Olympia? There is also a new one called Hot Spot II opening on Baltimore Pike in Springfiled, is it likely to be any good? (i.e. where is Hot Spot I and how is it?)

Thanks for your opinions!

  1. I used to live off of Baltimore Pike and ate regularly at the Olympia. That was a few years ago, but I imagine it isn't much different.

Most of these Greek diners are best for breakfast. The so-called "home fries" are sliced, boiled potatoes that sit in the corner the grill all day, so you better get there early! If you want hash browns, they are frozen patties (not hand grated) but are usually better than home fries.

Good luck! Try breakfast first, then, if you survive, go for lunch or dinner.

    1. There's a decent diner on the Baltimore Pike in Media, I can't remember the name. It's not fantastic, but it definitely beats the pants off the Llanerch.

Thanks for the suggestion. If I am out that way I will look for it. I was really hoping for something close to home (Drexel Hill near Havertown). I grew up in Jersey (diner heaven) so was a bit surprised to not find more obvious good ones here.

      2. The Llanerch changed hands recently and the food has improved; it may now be smoke-free, too. Have you tried the Country Squire, on Rt. 3 in Broomall? I like them for their fried shrimp.
