Mombo's Pizza (Santa Rosa) - Review

Stepped into to the tiny space on Mendocino Ave (near the college & high school) and found the best pizza I've had in Sonoma County so far.

Thin crust... NY style. Not quite as good as NY... but close. The crust was very flavorful... NY STCU... its not the water! Cheese was nicely, was rich & gooey with a tiny bit of sharpness. Mushrooms were very flavorful.

The one thing that kept it from being as good as pizza in NY was the sauce. There was no garlic & dried italian oregano intensity.

$3 for a NY sized slice.... $6 if you want a salad & drink. Not bad, given Sonoma County's outrageous prices.

We LOVE LOVE LOVE Mombo's Blanco pizza -- mozzarella, ricotta, feta, garlic, basil... and their Florentine pizza too (with fresh spinach!)! Both of these are white pizzas.... (my husband is allergic to tomatoes!) We've been on a Mombo's kick lately and have been ordering a pie about once every other week. We both grew up on the east coast and love our pizzas. We’ve only tried a few places in Santa Rosa, but Mombo’s is BY FAR our favorite so far.

My kids and I just had a huge debate between Mombo's and NYPie. We like that neither is 'sauced to death' and both have good cheese. I think Mombo's wins from the crust perspective. But lately Mombo's has seemed really greasy. As in puddles.

And, like not serving fries with your burgers, I have a problem with NY Pie not selling by the slice. What's up with that?

When it first opened and for a couple years, NY Pie had slices at lunch time. Don't know why and when this was discontinued.

If it helps... my slice was not greasy at all.

Mombo's also has an outpost in Sebastopol in the Fiesta Market Shopping Center. I'm a NY PIe person but they do not sell by the slice and sometimes that's all one needs and Mombo's fills that bill nicely. NY Pie also has another location on Yalupa and I think they deliver. Plus I understand they are looking for a west side location.

A trip to Mombo's and Fiesta Market is a good reason to drive to SEbastopol.

Yes, NY Pies delivers from the Yalupa location. My one eat-in sample though wasn't as good as the original. Updates?

Hmm, I may have to try delivery from the Yulupa one some night then now that I'm closer to that part of town.

For that style of pizza, you may also want to check out the place on Brookwood and Fourth, New York Pizza I think they're called? Maybe New York Pies? Good as well, generally cheaper than Mombos but they don't deliver.
