b-day gift idea
For my brother-in-law's upcoming 60th b-day we'd like to give him a dining experience in Paris. Looking for something that it is truly memorable, a tad bit off the beaten path, and not outrageous (in any sense). Are we looking for the impossible?

I would recommend Le Pamphlet in the 3rd arr. with a very good tasting menu at a reasonable price. Also, an exceptional menu of six courses can be had at L'Os a Moelle in the 15th. For inspiring food, do not overlook the excellant Chez Ami Jean in the 7th or the innovative newly one- starred Chez Jean in the 8th. I love Poule au Pot, for a very French experience and I also love that dish, although I have never been able to finish. So many places, so little time. Anyway, you can check most of these places out on the internet. Have fun!

Knowing your approx. budget and type of food (seafood, steaks, any particular part of France like Southeast, Mediterranean, etc.) you're searching for would help to some extent.
Also, if you could give the weekday you're going to have that b-day diner, since lots of small restos are closed all or part of the weekends. And no, you're not looking for the impossible, you should just be a little more precise, if you want valuable suggestions. If you want to walk to your hotel after dinner, you may want to say in what arrondissement you'll be staying.
Thanks.
