Somebody mentioned El Regio in passing in another post (about fast food chicken or something) and I gave it a try. I'm surprised I hadn't heard about this place before. I really thought the chicken had great flavor, both from the charcoal grilling and from whatever they marinated it in. The white meat was a little on the dry side, but the flavor really made up for it. It comes with an ultra-spicy green sauce and rice and well-seasoned borracho beans. I think a whole chicken with tortillas, rice, and beans was only about $12. It was only enough rice & beans for one, even with the whole chicken, so I'll order extra next time.
I'm glad you brought this up again (http://www.chowhound.com/topics/show/... ). I love the chicken at El Regio, especially from the location on East Riverside on any sunny weekend afternoon. So many people come by for take-out that the chicken is always piping-hot. At less busy times, I've gotten slightly dry chicken, too.
I'm addicted to that hot green salsa. And I even like their packaged corn tortillas. I need to find out what kind they use.
