Akaoni Ramen in Rowland Heights

notmartha Jan 7, 2007 04:32 AM

Akaoni Ramen is located in yet another newly renovated strip mall (YES Plaza) in Rowland Heights. I swear the restaurants in the Rowland Heights area closes and opens like magic mushrooms after the rain.

The shop is in the 'food court' area. That means you order, you get a number, you find a table (inside or outside), then they bring your food to your table.

At first we were kind of worried. Most of the dinners that night seem to be getting food from the Sichuan noodle place next door, which is not a good sign.

But when the food came all our fears were dispelled. I ordered the #6, which is the whitish pork bone based broth with thin slices of pork and garnishes. The broth was deep and flavorful yet not at all salty or heavy. The noodles has the typical firm bite (not bad, don't think they made it there though), and the pork has a nice amount of the fat with the meat. Typical garnishes consists of 1/2 egg, bamboo shots, bean sprouts, a slice of fish cake and a broccoli floret.

My husband ordered the spicy soy based noodles, which is good, but not as good as my broth. We also ordered the chicken meatball noodle soup for our son.

Overall the noodles ranges about $6 per bowl Definitely worth checking out if in the area, or for the ramen fanatics.
