Matador Bistro? Anyone been?
I've been to Matador a number of times for dinner, and have really enjoyed it. The red sangria is excellent, and the bar staff is extremely friendly.
The tapas are generally very good, with a few that are excellent and a few that are only okay. In the past, my favorites have been the hummus, the tamale and the shrimp in garlic. They usually have a few special tapas that are very good, as well.
This is not a mind-blowing tapas experience, but it is good quality food in a really warm, relaxed setting.
I haven't been in over a year, but was very underwhelmed when I went. We were with a group of 8 or so and thus were able to order the lion's share of the menu between us. Our entire group felt like the offerings were extremely generic and not particularly well-executed. Unfortunately there were not even any standout dishes that would suggest mere inconsistency -- nothing was good. Tia Pol and Boqueria are much more worthwhile (though both are notably tough to get into.)
I'm hoping that things have improved and would be interested to hear your thoughts after you return.
