Best hotels for Room service/bar/dining
oh man, this is so not anywhere near nyc, but i just can't resist pointing out that the seelbach hilton in louisville ky is, for me, the essence of a great bar/restaurant experience. food at the oak room is great, and the bar is one of those low ceiling-ed, dark wood, low light, equestrian themed, jazz combo in the corner, stellar selection of bourbons kind of place. The hotel has real old southern glamour. it's, of course, at its best the first weekend in may: kentucky derby!
I just went to Blue Fin a few days ago for dinner and was not impressed at all. The sushi was average, in fact, the uni I ordered was bordering on not fresh. The organic scottish salmon that my dinnermates ordered was also overcooked and surprisingly fishy tasting (in a bad way). For the price, I really did not think Blue Fin was worth it, especially considering all the other tasty food NYC has to offer.
W Times Square- the restaurant (Blue Fin) is excellent; The W in New York at Union Square has an Olives that is better than most; The International House in New Orleans (not really east coast) has Lemongrass (under remodel at the second) which is good; the Mandarin Oriental in DC has CityZen which is rated as one of the top DC restaurants; Tabard Inn in DC has possibly the best oysters I've ever had, though the rest of their food was lousy on my last trip there.
