Fringale - Anyone visit recently?
I just did a search on the board for Fringale and didn't see anything recent. I've heard that it's gone downhill but thought I'd check with the experts - anyone?
Just wanted to let everyone know that I did end up going last weekend and ended up having a wonderful meal. I started with the simple mixed greens and then had the chicken breast that was accompanied by brussel sprouts and butternut squash in a lobster sauce. (I know, it sounds sort of strange but it was delish!) The chicken breast was cooked perfectly. Others at the table started with the frissee and lardon salad and mains included steak frites (great frites!) duck confit on lentils (fabulous) and salmon (also reported as very good.) As for wine, we had the Gigondas which was fantastic.
I ate there about six months ago, can't even remember what I had, but whatever it was I remember thinking it was good, simple, classic, and not too salty...
I realize you've already been, but I'll chime in anyway. The Mrs. and I had our NYE dinner there. Prix fixe menu, but we were not disappointed, except for dessert. We both started w/ a foie gras salad that was light and superb. For main entrees, she had the filet mignon, juicy, tender and excellent. I had the sauteed turbot, which was wonderfully seasoned and a delight. We had a lovely Burgundy, at the waiter's suggestion, that accompanied both dishes rather well without breaking the bank. Dessert, however, almost seemed like an afterthought;we both had a flourless chocolate cake that was bone dry and massive, so big that we couldn't finish, even had we wanted to. That being said, I would definitely go back, just to see the regular menu, and the option of not feeling like I had to have a dessert in order to make the most of a prix fixe.
