My friend is taking me out to dinner tomorrow, and we have reservations at Cut, Mastro's and Mozza. (Don't worry, I'll cancel the res to where we aren't going).

I've been to Mastro's (many times) and to Cut (only once). But, I've never had the pleasure of going to Mozza (it's so far!).

I'm not craving steak these days, but I really enjoy the desserts at Mastro's, and I've always wanted to try their Butter Cake. I hear Mozza has some great desserts as well.

Your help, please? Where should we go?

they are all vastly different. Had you NOT been to Cut, I would vote for that hands down. I don't think Mozza is in the same league as a Cut, for example, but is definitely an experience.
If it's on the other person's dime and they don't mind, I'd still opt for Cut, regardless of whether you're not quite a big steak person these days.
Mastro's for some reason, doesn't register on my radar, especially as you're not a steak person anymore...
just my 2 cents.

I think it really depends upon what you are in the mood for. In my case, I'd opt for Cut, since I've eaten at Mastro's and Mozza before. However, I had a great meal at Mozza recently, and have been hankering to go back. Your meal there will likely be less heavy than Cut, which is appealing to me post-holiday.

Um, if a friend told me she/he'd pay for my meal at CUT, I'd immediately say YES. Since you've already been there, you know how great it is. I'd go back any day! :)

lol at jenngen (I could use a Cut reservation too!) - but depends on if you feel like steak ~ Cut if you do, otherwise Mozza (their dessert menu is small, but distinctive).

Cut is the restaurant I'd want somebody else to pay for. But if I was one of the restaurateurs you'd skunked, I'd make sure you never got a reservation again. It is reprehensible behavior, especially at restaurants that are so hard to get into.

It's not more reprehensible than a restaurant clearly overbooking on reservations and making people wait an hour or more for a table. At least the 2 runners up will have plenty of walk-in action that they can happily seat once those rezzies are cancelled. The diner is stuck.

I was upfront with Mozza and Cut, that I had another reservation. They didn't seem to mind at all. And, I informed them when I made the res that I'd cancel if I didn't need the table. Which I did, and they appreciated it. Honestly, my assistant likes to give me different options, more with time, depending on how the day is going, so I don't end up going to the same places.

One thing I STILL can't get over, even after all these years, is at (for instance) Nobu, after waiting for 30 minutes for a table where I had a reservation, Rob Reiner walks in without a res and is seated immediately.

Whew, condiment, I'm sure glad you don't eat at those restaurants then.

I guess Cut is the place to go. I've never had the kobe, and it's going to be hard not ordering. I'm hoping my friend orders it, so I can try it!

Thanks for the help.

I do in fact eat at Cut and Mozza. Although perhaps not as often as I'd like, not having a personal assistant to make redundant reservations. Overbooking by restaurateurs is rude; I submit that overbooking by customers is equally rude.
