FYI... Amazon.com offers rare to find, single source coffees, at very good prices. I purchased 1 lb of Coatepec, Veracruz for $8 and am very, very pleased by it. Next time I will by the 5 lb bag for $25ish.

They also have green coffee... if I had a local place that would roast small batches that could be ideal.

BTW, does anybody roast their own coffee at home? What does it take?

You might want to ask cordovero (post towards the bottom in the thread above):

"Luxxe has said something about roasting themselves someday, but my experience has been that that's a big undertaking (lots of codes about where it can be done -- coffee roasting, which I do myself too, produce a LOT of pungent smoke). "

I've heard you can roast in a pan in the oven, but ideally your oven should go to 550 degrees (500 is okay too). You have to stir every few minutes, and your kitchen will get pretty smokey and smelly. You could try to figure out how to do this outside too. I think shaking the coffee in a covered pan or chestnut roaster would work.

You can also roast coffee on the stove in a WhirlyPop popcorn popper.

I keep saying I'm going to try the above methods, but have yet to find green beans in my area. Not that there aren't any, I'm just lazy.
