iso: Black Chook wines

More specifically, I'm looking for the sparkling shiraz. Does any store (other than Silverlake Wine, which had about a quarter case left at 4PM, Sunday afternoon) carry it? I thought I'd heard something about a Bristol Farms in Pasadena...?

Some guy from the cheese section of the 3rd/Fairfax Whole Foods just tried to sell me a *split* of sparkling shiraz priced at $21-23.

I'd rather be able to buy a full-sized bottle of Chook and a container of Wakefield peanuts for that amount.

  1. The Vendome in Toluca Lake has it for about the same price as Silver Lake. Around $18 a bottle I think.

SLW sells it for less than $16.50, and it's closer. Oh, well.

    2. i just bought a bottle of it at mission wines. gave it as a gift, so no tasting notes.

        Thanks, duly noted!

      2. Have you found anything equally good?

I tried a sparkling grenache not too long ago. I want to say it's under Trevor Jones' label, but it wasn't nearly as good as the Chook shiraz, and it was priced at about...$20 or so.

Does The Black Chook have a website? I was wanting to buy some to give as gifts when I travel. But I'd be very happy if a store in the city I'm flying to stocked them....

Black Chook and Woop Woop are apprently sister companies; this is about the closest I can find:

        2. I just had one at BottleRock last week. It's so good

          1. I live a block away from the Bristol Farms in South Pasadena, and will take a look for you. Also, you should give Red Carpet Wine (Glendale) and Mission Wines (South Pasadena) a buzz to see if they have it.
