Where is a good place to eat in Carmel or Monterey?

I just had a great meal at Melange in Pacific Grove ...... loved the scallops and the sweetbreads.

      In Carmel:
Patisserie Boissiere for about a $10 lunch. I had a great roasted turkey breast sandwich, and others I was with had yummy meatloaf and soup and sandwich. They have a pastry case, too.

Jack London's Bar & Grill. I've heard it gets pretty loud and rowdy on weekend nights. I went early on a weekend and had great food at reasonable prices. (Most entrees are around $15, I think).

      In Monterey:
For seafood, I always like going to Old Fisherman's Grotto on Fisherman's Wharf. They have the best clam chowder.

You'll find Lollapalooza in downtown Monterey. They have good food, though on a weekend night, the bar is packed.

      In Pacific Grove:
Just across the street from Passionfish is the Red House Cafe. They have incredible breakfasts and lunches for about $10. I've heard their dinners are good, too.

Peppers Mexicali Cafe is good for Mexican food if you're in the downtown P.G. area. Yelpers give it a good rating. I liked their tamales in mole sauce.

It's been a long time since I've been to Carmel, but when doing research for my sister's wedding a few years ago, I remember really liking The Forge in the Forest (forgeintheforest.com). The food was good, but they have a cute little garden area with heatlamps that is great for an intimate dinner.

I ate at Forge in the Forest last summer and liked it. Warning--they have expanded their seating and there is now an area downstairs that doesn't have the same ambience as upstairs. Next time I go, I'll make sure to ask for seating upstairs.

Ditto Passionfish, which is in Pacific Grove.

But you should define "good" and your budgetary constraints, if any.

            Passionfish.

But shouldn't this be posted in "California"?
