quick breakfast or lunch near Columbus & Illinois

I'm visiting Chicago this weekend for a conference and hoping to find some places near my hotel to go for quick breakfasts and lunches. Bakeries, sandwich shops, take-out: any cuisine, so long as it's delicious. What's great within a few blocks of 500 N Columbus Dr? I'm not familiar with the area (or with Chicago) at all. Thanks for any help.

Check out a diner type restaurant for breakfast called Mary's which is on Grand avenue - a block north of Illinois. Another spot with great hamburgers is also located on Grand - called Boston Blackies. Fox & Oble is an upscale food store located on Illinois and has great breakfasts. Good luck.

Yes, Fox and Obel is a great choice. It's one block east of Columbus, at Illinois and McClurg. It is indeed an upscale grocery store - exactly what it sounds like, with the finest meats, baked goods, prepared foods, etc - and they have a nice-sized cafe in the back, where you order and pay on line and they have sit-down seating (with the day's newspapers to read). In the cafe, you can get anything from a pastry (their "cinnamon swirl" rolls are the best in the city, YUMMMMM!) to an omelet for breakfast, and sandwiches and salads for lunch. They open at 7 a.m. You can find a map of their location, and a menu for the cafe, on their website at http://www.foxandobel.com

For a nearby lunch possibility: Sayat Nova, an Armenian restaurant, at 157 E. Ohio St. That would be two blocks north, a block and a half west of the Columbus/Illinois intersection.
