un-shucked sea scallops?

are there any fish mongers that sell scallops still in their shells? i know this is a difficult find since scallops tend to get shucked while they're still on the boat, but i LOVE scallop roe and the texture scallops have when they're still attached to their shells.

also, is there a scallop season? i only ask because i've noticed scallops in the shell are only available at peach farm at certain times.

thanks!

I've seen them at Savenor's and at the Chinatown market downstairs from Lucky Seafood.

I second that warning. Scallops that are fresh in their shell are pretty damn good. We're talking about so fresh that they move when you salt. But, they seem to go faster when they are unshucked. Try calling Captain Marden in Wellesley I believe. I think that is where his retail operation is.

be careful with scallops in the shell, i once got appendicitis which i traced back to eating scallops in the shell (in an otherwise very reputable Chinese restaurant in Toronto)...ymmv
