Paris Questions - Chocolate, Shwarma, & Crepes

eepo Jan 1, 2007 09:32 PM

Where should I go to buy the best chocolate in Paris? Shwarma? Crepes? I can take the metro anywhere so location isn't too important. Thanks in advance.

One of the best chocolate shops is L'Etoile d'Or near Montmartre. It's a quirky little shop run by a quirky woman named Denise who has long braids and who doesn't speak much (if any) English...but she has an infectious passion for chocolate and has wonderful products. I believe she is the only shop in Paris to carry Bernachon chocolates which are fabulous. Her caramels are wonderful. Here's are a couple of links where you can read more about this delightful shop:

(The second link is a full report on many chocolate shops in Paris...will give you a good idea of what you can find. L'Etoile d'Or is featured at the end.)

Great advice...and the links are very informative. A visit to Jean Paul Hevin's signature shop on Faubourg St. Honore is de rigueur for chocaholics. Charlotte's (Ile St Louis) is a pilgrimage in itself for hot chocolate...Charlotte is rather elderly, so do hurry.

When my husband and I were there, we did our own "chocolate tour"...we mapped out the shops we wanted to visit and made a day of it. It was great fun. Unfortunately, Hevin's shop was closed. :( Let us know what you found!!

Shwarma? It's everywhere. Usually good, but some places rush the meat loofa and it's undercooked. Get both white and red sauce on it and fries on top.

Anne-Marie Cantin, 12, Rue du Champs de Mars, 7e arr. THE cheese heaven, especially if you like chèvres.

Also, the fromagerie next to the marché aux enfants rouges in the Marais. I can't remember the name, but it's on rue de bretagne and it's just next to the entrance to the market. They have a fantastic camembert aged in calvados liqueur.
