St Louis Chowhound Thumbs Down: Que Pasa Cantina

The Que Pasa Cantina is on Watson Road next to Johnnie Mac's. We went there around 4:30 PM on New Year's Eve.

We had an utterly tasteless shrimp quesadilla and utterly bland spinach enchiladas. Service was spotty.

This is NOT a place you go for the food. They have televisions...lots and lots of televisions; this is a place where you would go to watch sporting events, and drink Mexican beer.

  1. We have eaten there several times and the food hasn't been bad at all. Once the kids had a burger that was undercooked but our food has always been good. Good value for the money, good service, and good atmosphere. Of course it won't appeal to everyone but it's much better than Casa and the chain restaurants.

I have to second a thumbs down on the food so far. We ate at Que Pasa Cantina about two weeks ago on a Friday night. Expected it to be packed, but pleasantly surprised we were able to get a fairly decent table. The appetizers were "okay", but the Shark Taco I had was bone dry and tastless - very disappointing. I had to give thumbs up for the excellent service, drinks, and the band. Made for a good atmosphere, but I wouldn't go there for the food itself. May try back later.

    2. We went there a few weeks ago and had the best nachos I've ever had in my life. I don't know what they put in their cheese, but it's pretty fantastic. Unfortunately, at the time I wasn't eating a lot of meat, and they didn't have much on the menu for vegetarians, even though they were willing to sub beans for any kind of meat on the menu. Also, the service was pretty bad - we lost our waitress several times, and ended up staying about half an hour later than we wanted to as a result. I would definitely go back for those nachos, though!
