Sorry for all the posts, but I'm trying to wrap things up and given my New Year's resolution, ironically I couldn't drive a half a mile today without stumbling across something interesting.

So I am driving up 3rd street and I see a shop that sells boats & fishing gear with a fish market / sandwich shop inside ... well, I gotta stop, right?

It has a few good mentions buried in other posts on Chowhound.

It is a tiny fish counter. Cooked crabs today were $6.49 for a whole crab. People were walking out with big plastic bags full. If I was more of a Dungeness fan, that might have been dinner tonight.

What is so cool is they have a little wine section next to the seafood counter with wines they think match up well with the seafood.

There was a big tank of live lobsters but the prices seemed heart-stopping on those.

I was stuffed from a big breakfast so I just looked today. However, has anyone tried the crab sandwiches or clam chowder?

Here's the website

The site mentions their cocktail shrimp have never been frozen. They mention sand dabs too.

I just started buying crab there myself, even though a friend who grew up in San Rafael swears by it. I don't know what took me so long. Their crab seems really fresh, and it's definitely worth the trip from Mill Valley. We always bought our crab at Caruso's in Sausalito, and, even though I love Fish, I really miss Caruso's!

I stop in there for bait all the time and have always been taken aback by the seafood prices. My fishing buddy was desperate for oysters once, so he broke down and got some there. Although he paid an arm & leg, they turned out just fine.

Their seafood is really fresh, but PRICEY. I've often wondered how they can cope with the inevitable waste with such high prices. Maybe its a vicious circle in the seafood business...high prices = low sales...low sales, boost prices...etc, etc. Not like its in Ferry Bldg, where all the rich foodies shop.

Today's seafood = tommorrow's bait?

So, has anyone had the crab sandwich or clam chowder?

Today I stopped there for a pint of clam chowder ($6) and a crab sandwich ($11 or $12). Clam chowder is "my type", mid-consistancy, not a broth and not "really thick", lots of clams and clam flavor and not too many potatoes. I'll finsh the last half of it for dinner. The crab sandwich is a LOT of freshly cooked Dungeness crab on two large slices of good-texture white bread (although the bread was pretty stale today), with your choice of mayo and/or cocktail sauce (I got 1/2 and 1/2). I don't see how it could be much better (except with fresher bread; but that didn't detract much from my enjoyment).
